For the first time in our 85year History, Hull Savoyards present The Grand Duke, by Gilbert and Sullivan (the comic geniuses behind such classics as The Pirates of Penzance., Mikado and many more). This is one of their lesser performed operetta’s and in our interpretation the exciting new setting moves the action to the wild west and the town of Pfennig-Halbpfennig, led by the intractable and grumpy Sheriff Rudolph. A local theatre group take it upon themselves to overthrow the despot, but things don’t quite go to plan with hilarious consequences! Featuring shot-gun weddings witty multiple wives, card games and duals at high noon, this show promises to be a great night out for all the family.

This comic opera combines the wit of Gilbert’s libretto with the stunning swells of Sullivan’s music, with the society's Kingston Savoy Orchestra providing the orchestral arrangement.
