Hull Savoyards have arranged for the HMS Pinafore to sail into Cottingham and Hornsea in June 2017 with the Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Porte K.C.B. on board.

The production of HMS Pinafore features jolly sailors, lovelorn lads and lasses and a useless First Sea Lord who has never been to sea.  Cue the song: ‘ I Polished up that Handle so Careful-ee, that Now I am the Ruler of the Queen’s Nav-ee’.

The operetta was written in 1878 but the satire is bang up to date: class war, the slippery pole of politics and even Brexit!  The hero ‘resists temptations to belong to other nations, to remain an Englishman!’.

Audiences in the Hull area have learned to expect a high standard of musicianship and acting from Savoyards, as well as sumptuous costumes and eye-catching sets which capture the atmosphere.

The Savoyards have some new blood in the crew for ‘Pinafore’.  This includes the musical director, Gina Boardman, who is a third-year music student at Hull University.  She conducted the university’s acclaimed production of ‘Princess Ida’.  Taking the male lead is Stuart Sellens.  Stuart has previously sung with theatre companies at Halifax, Bingley and Bradford.

Theatregoers will enjoy two shows for the price of one.  The evening will begin with the comic opera ‘Trial by Jury’.  Both pieces will be accompanied by the Kingston Savoy Orchestra.

" ‘Trial’ is considered a masterpiece of its type by weaving together memorable songs with a hilarious plot, plus lots of well-deserved digs at pompous lawyers,” says Savoyards chairman Harold Kay.  “All the gags and musical numbers are crammed into one, fast-moving act.  So, it’s non-stop fun!”

The performance begin at 7.30 pm and the venues are;

Civic Hall Cottingham 16th and 17th June 2017

The Floral Hall Hornsea. 24th June 2017.

Tickets are £12 with Concessions £10.  Tickets available at the door or in advance from 01482 876918 for Cottingham and the Floral Café or booking office on Newbegin for Hornsea.

There is a bonus performance at The Tickton Little Theatre on Friday 23rd June 2017. This will not include the Kingston Savoy Orchestra and tickets are £8.50 available from 01964 543594.
